This past weekend I had the opportunity to participate in the Girl Tribe Pop Up shop in Charlotte. It's a fantastic opportunity that hosts dozens of female owned businesses in a traveling pop up shop including anything from clothing boutiques, artists, fitness experts, jewelry designers, to home organizers, food trucks, and so much more.
I decided on a whim to send in my application, even though it was well past the deadline. I thought I would get put on a wait list, create a few things in preparation, and then never hear anything from the Girl Tribe Co. I figured the worst that could happen would be that I motivated myself enough to bring a few of the ideas floating around in my head to fruition, and that would be the end of it. But I got the call that there was a space available for me! Cue instant panic, because by then it was three weeks until the pop up shop, and I had NOTHING to take there! Most all of my work to this point is custom, so I don't have a plethora of merchandise sitting around, besides a few prints here and there. So I hunkered down and got really busy.. painting, ordering, shopping for display materials, etc. It was chaotic to say the least. Let me also mention that I decided to do this on a weekend that Scott had planned months ago to be fishing in Michigan for the salmon run... so I was going to be doing every bit of this SOLO.
I was super intimidated to do this, I still see myself as a newbie in the artist/mompreneur world. And I know there are a lot of established businesses that are Girl Tribe vendors, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I showed up and was immediately at ease. The atmosphere was welcoming and the energy was contagious. I met my amazing booth neighbors and was instantly connected to them and excited to be there.
I sold some cards and prints, handed out a ton of business cards (some of whom have already contacted me!) and left the experience overall feeling grateful and inspired about my future in this business. I can't wait to do more things like this in the future and am already planning the next pop up event- at Traditions Interiors & Accessories in Charlotte on November 16th, for their Holiday Pop Up Event. I seriously can't wait!
